My name is Imani Glasco and I was born and raised in Austin, TX. After graduating high school in 2010 I moved to Chicago in pursuit of higher education. I initially landed at DePaul University, but only for one year. After that year I decided to take some time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. This led to me enrolling in Columbia College to study Violin Performance. While I loved being able to pursue my passion, I really struggled to be creative in a classroom setting.
In 2016 my fiancé and our two cats packed our lives up in a mini-van and drove from Chicago to Austin so I could get my associate’s degree in music business. Leaving Chicago was a difficult choice, but being back in my hometown really helped make the move feel worthwhile. Thankfully I was able to retain my Texas residency and had previously been enrolled at Austin Community College. In 2017, while I was still working towards my associate’s in music business, my fiancé became my husband in a small ceremony in San Marcos. In 2018, I graduated with my associates degree and was ready to hit the ground running.
Unfortunately, in 2020, Covid hit the United States and working in the live entertainment industry no longer seemed like a good idea. In isolation I decided that I wanted to pivot careers and enrolled in a few ACC classes to learn more about networks and programming. While I did end up dropping those courses, that initial interest led me down a rabbit hole to where I am today. I joined a coding Bootcamp and graduated in 2022 and then decided I wanted to get my bachelor’s degree in computer science.
I went back to ACC so I could take some gen-ed classes that would help with the transfer to a four-year. In 2025 I applied for a transfer to Texas State and was granted one. I started school in Fall 2025 but at the last minute decided to change my major from Computer Science to Digital Media Innovation. I am so glad that I was able to switch right before new student orientation. I finally feel like I am on the path that I should have been on all along.
